You could belt it...

OK, so, I feel like that should have been the phrase of 2009. Anyways I was watching the video for CeCe Peniston's song "Finally", and her backup dancer had some sick styling. Leather overalls with a waist belt. I searched the net and even though you would think that would have been an obvious thing for 2009 with YSL's leather overalls being such a big deal. I mean they were pretty sick. However it wasn't. Nobody even tread the idea. So, now it's my mission to find me some leather overalls , and belt the hell out of my waist. I wanna wear it either like 2pac eg:
Either with a white tee, a gold watch and some sick chains. Or maybe just shirtless like the video styled the dancer, with creepers and knee socks.

Either way I think it would be a cool interpretation of my history of growing up in the Midwest, the ideas of leather when thinking of it in the context of the gay population (or even the straight population. Leather has such a weird stimulus behind what it symbolizes and how completely context dependent the interpretation of the use of it is. Yeah look for that post later when I have some time), and traditional gender expectations when it comes to silhouette. I think it's pretty interesting when looking a the picture of 2pac in his leather, tube top?, corset?, bulletproof vest? I think it shows that no matter how hard you are you can have philosophy in your style. I wonder what his comment would be about this photo? Most of the rappers nowadays would never even think of wearing a tee shirt that tight let alone with a leather button up tube top attached to a belt.

At any cost, it enters into the realm of being counter-counterculture. There are so many points of reference to explain and analyze the semiotics of the styling of both of the male pictures that it almost eliminates all points of reference. It's really refreshing, and I think taken out of the context of music videos, runway shows, and editorials the idea behind a belted pair of leather overalls hardly translates to the idea of "style" that it's going to evidently make people uncomfortable. It's like psychology through style.

Maybe we all just need to connect all these subdivided subjects and we will find that "originality" that everyone has been craving, without having to wring the past dry of inspiration. ▲
